Hi! My name is Samuel, I'm 20 years old and I came from Belgium.
I arrived in Tokyo about 4 months ago. I was really happy and excited about coming here, because I always wanted to know if I could live on my own without my parents. I also heard that Japan was a beautiful country, and I wanted to judge for myself. The only hard part about leaving Belgium for so long was being separated from my girlfriend whose name is Camille, but luckily she's joining me in Tokyo next month to travel around Japan with me.
At first, when I arrived here, it was hard to be far away from my country, my friends, and my parents, but I quickly got used to it. I do a lot of activities evey day. I take Japanese classes every morning, then I usually come home to eat lunch, and after lunch I go to work at the Paideia School to teach English to kids. I really enjoy working at that school. The other teachers and the kids are always so joyful. I also signed up at a gym to work out regularly and stay in shape.
During these 4 months, I've been staying in a big house with 10 other housemates. I'm extremely happy because 5 of them are Japanese, so I get to practice the Japanese I learn at school with my housemates at home. The other 5 are foreigners, so it is very interesting to hear them talk about their countries and their different cultures.
Everybody is really kind, and we often have small house parties all together.
The main reason I came to Japan was to learn the language. I'm really happy about my stay here, because now I'm able to speak Japanese almost fluently. I also learnd a lot about Japanese culture: I ate Japanese food , I saw a kabuki show, I slept in a "ryokan" and I even went to a game center! I also met a lot of incredible people that are now my good friends.
I decided not to visit any other place outside Tokyo during my 5-months stay here before my girlfriend joins me next month, so that we can discover the rest of the country together. We've already talked often on the phone about our trip, and we planned out almost everything already.
We reserved all of the hotels, decided which parts of the country we would visit, and we even decided where we would go eat on the first night! (Let me give you a hint: it's rice with raw fish on top.)
I'm so excited to see her and tell her about all of my adventures, let her meet my Japanese friends and show her around Tokyo!
